Education
Every child should be provided the opportunity to succeed – not just a select few. I will fight to preserve our public education system and to ensure that it is well-funded.
Health Care
Health care is a fundamental human right for all Texans and not a privilege reserved for those able to afford it. I believe we need to invest in prevention initiatives, expand Medicaid, oppose efforts to undermine the Affordable Care Act, and boost mental health & substance abuse services.
Economy
Hardworking Texans have the right to good jobs to support their families and invest in their future. I filed HB3082 in the 83rd legislative session and supported HJR26 in the 84th legislative session to increase the minimum wage in our state. This is why I will fight to secure workplace safety and the right to unionize.
Environment
Climate change is a real and serious threat that is causing drought, crop failure, heat waves, more torrential storms, and extreme climate events. This is why I will stand with the scientific community in seeking solutions to cut pollution in our state. I support our state’s investment in clean energy like solar and wind.
Transportation
Nobody likes traffic! Texas’ infrastructure is rapidly aging as the majority of Texas highways were built more than 40 years ago and cement has a design life of only 40 to 50 years. I will fight for the construction and maintenance of non-tolled roads. I will also work to encourage land use policies that create walkable bikeable and transit oriented communities.
Women's Equality
I am proud to call myself a feminist. Women have the right to control their own bodies, and thus I am pro-choice. I will also fight for equal pay for equal work in addition to paid pregnancy & family leave in all employment contracts.
LGBTQ+ Rights
Love is love, and everybody deserves to be treated equally. I will defend the constitutional right to marriage against any legislative attempts to undermine it. I will speak up for our trans community and oppose any North Carolina-style “bathroom bills.” I will support programs to combat suicides and homelessness amongst LGBTQ+ youth and oppose any measures that legitimize “reparative therapy.” I will also back any efforts to end workplace discrimination.
Voting Rights
Our right to vote is sacred. I oppose any unnecessary barriers to voting including Texas’ disappointing Voter ID law. I support the creation of an independent redistricting commission. I will fight to protect the federal Voting Rights Act.
Criminal Justice Reform
Texas has more people in prison and a higher incarceration rate than any other state. This is unacceptable. I have zero tolerance for policies that promote racial profiling. I believe that prison-style incarceration of our youth does more harm than good. I support revising sentencing guidelines for non-violent offenders. I also oppose the campus and open carry of firearms.
